I.Metshin: “The figures encourage us to continue creating sports infrastructure in parks, squares, and residential areas”

This winter, more than 35 thousand people participated at more than 50 sports events in Kazan. The Mayor of the capital of Tatarstan Ilsur Metshin noted that every year the number of citizens who follow a healthy lifestyle is increasing. “The figures encourage us to continue our work on creation the infrastructure for sports in parks, squares, and residential areas”, - he said today at the Business Monday.

Kazan hosted competitions in 8 winter sports, said Albert Salikhov, head of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports. A major event was the city tournament of the All-Russian competitions of young hockey players of the Golden Puck club named after A.V.Tarasov. The number of participants of the competitions is constantly increasing. This season, 107 teams took part at the Golden Puck tournament, while in 2020 there were 91 teams.

The ski season was also eventful. This year, traditional competitions Ski Track of Russia were held on February 13 at four venues, more than 21 thousand people attended them. A month later, on March 13-14, the 54th Kazan Ski Marathon and the 46th Kazan Youth Ski Marathon were held at the Lokomotiv Stadium. “In two days, more than 1,200 skiers took part in the marathons, which broke all previous records for the number of participants at these competitions”, - said Albert Salikhov.

On March 20, the season ended up with the cross-country skiing competitions for the Kazan Mayor Cup at the Kazan hippodrome.

Albert Salikhov emphasized that the residents of Kazan actively trained at the indoor and outdoor ice rinks this winter. “According to preliminary information, more than 220 thousand people visited Kazan ice rinks during the winter period”, - he reported.
