Today, the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin set the task
to organize parental control of school feeding from the third quarter at a
meeting with school principals held at the Saidash cultural center. Every day,
parents will visit the canteens and control the nutrition of school students,
the quality of meal and menus based according to the checklists. The Mayor emphasized
that only joint efforts can solve the issue of hot meals quality, calling on
parents to be active, and school principals to build a well – coordinated catering
mechanism.
“We have much to
be proud of, but we also have a room to improve”
Ilsur Metshin said that, like any system, school meals
require adjustment. He reminded that since 2019, school canteens suffered big
changes. In particular, 36 canteens were renovated, 400 units of new modern
equipment were installed, furniture was purchased, dishes and kitchen equipment
were updated, and new uniform was purchased for the staff. Also, by 1 September
2020, the total staffing of school canteens was increased to 92%. To attract cooks,
the Department of food and nutrition held job fairs “Time to cook”. Thanks to
the support of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, the cooks’ salaries were
increased.
“The hot meal system in Kazan has a 10-year history,
and we have much to be proud of, but we also have a room to improve. I get
feedback from our social activists, parents, and there are complaints, - Ilsur
Metshin said. – Kazan is the city which produces strategic bombers,
helicopters, has a developed petrochemicals and refining. I believe that together
with our parents we can solve the problem of how to bring a hot meal from the
stove to the table”, - the Mayor said.
The head of the city called on parents to be active,
and school principals to build a well – coordinated catering mechanism.
“We have nothing
to hide from parents”
The head of the Kazan Department of Education, Irek
Rizvanov, said that some parents criticize school meals without even trying the
dishes. At the same time, schools already have parental control books for
particular dish reviews.
He noted that the solution of this problem will be to
create a system of permanent parental control, which will work from January
2021. By the end of this year, each school will have a list of parents who will
carry out daily monitoring. In order to avoid subjectivity, a single checklist
will be developed to help parents, which will contain the main criteria for
evaluating both the nutrition and its organization. “Only with such interaction
with parents we will be able to adjust the nutrition system efficiently. We
have nothing to hide from parents, on the contrary-we want to ensure their
children are fed and satisfied”, - said Irek Rizvanov.
Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin noted that parents should
evaluate dishes in accordance with the requirements of the Russian Agency for
Health and Consumer Rights (Rospotrebnadzor). “There is a clear standard – a
school restaurant is not a cafeteria, it is, first of all, a healthy food designed
to meet all the requirements of Rospotrebnadzor, it is basic,”- the head of the
city said. “We got used to high standard, the educational process is certainly
at the forefront, but we all want to raise a healthy generation, this can only
be achieved by joint efforts”, - I.Metshin concluded.
The head of the Department of Education told about
plans to hold training seminars for school principals in the format of a
strategic session on catering. “Even a teacher of the highest category
periodically needs some revision and learn new experiences”, - said Irek
Rizvanov.
