July 1, Alena Miroshnichenko). On July 3, Kazan will host the European Swimming
Championship in short water among juniors. The competitions will be held at the
Palace of Water Sports until July 7. It will unite more than 500 athletes from
42 European countries, said Svetlana Vostrikova, the chairperson of the
Committee of Physical Culture and Sports, today at the Business Monday.
The
participants of the championship are girls from 14 to 17 years old and boys
from 15 to 18 years old. They will compete for medals in 34 individual disciplines
and 8 relays. 41 swimmer will perform for the Russian national team. “There are
famous athletes in the team, despite the young age of the members. Andrey
Minakov, the master of sports of international class, the six-time winner of
the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina's Buenos Aires from St. Petersburg,
and Daria Vaskina, the master of sports of international class, three-time
champion of the Youth Olympic Games of 2018 from Moscow, are among them”,
explained S. Vostrikova.
18 Russian
judges will evaluate the skills of athletes, including 4 judges from Kazan, as
well as 21 international judges. Also, 120 volunteers involved in organizing
the championship. S. Vostrikova also said that participants, team
representatives, and championship judges would be accommodated in the eight
best hotels in Kazan.
The
championship will be monitored online as part of online broadcasts, as well as
on the channels Match TV. The chairperson of the Committee of Physical Culture
and Sport invited Kazan citizens and guests on July 3 at 5:30 pm to open the
competitions at the Palace of Water Sports.
“The holding
of various international, including sports, events is becoming the norm for
Kazan. But it is always a reason to improve the work of the hospitality
industry, the infrastructure of our city”, said Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of
Kazan. He recalled that next August, the Games of the Union of Independent
States countries would be held in the city. “We hope this will allow bringing
the city’s infrastructure to the next level, loading hotels, improving
hospitality, increasing tourist flow, and attracting new guests”, said I.
Metshin. “All this will give our city new opportunities and a heritage that
will serve the good of the residents of Kazan. I hope that the organizers and
participants of the European Junior Swimming Championships will remember Kazan
only from a good side”.
