The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin informed that the Kazan Zoo would receive new giraffes. Preparations for their transportation took several years and required coordination with federal and international agencies.
“It took us many years of hard work and coordination with many federal agencies to deliver giraffes to the Kazan Zoo. Today we are waiting for these beautiful, unusual animals. I will not disclose all the details. This is a very complicated logistics with several transfers and flights,”- shared Ilsur Metshin.
The exact number of animals and the date of their arrival will be announced later. Alexander Shavliashvili, Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development, is currently discussing all the details of transporting giraffes. Ilsur Metshin noted that previous delivery of giraffes to our country was in 2007.
Currently, there are 143 species of animals and 1,136 species of plants in the Kazan Zoo. In June, the zoo also received two baby elephants as a gift from the President of Laos, which were handed over to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“In just seven months of this year, we have welcomed 445,000 tourists. I am sure that as soon as we bring the giraffes, the attendance will increase significantly at the Zoo,”- the Mayor said.
