Over a ten‑year
period, the number of lighting points in Kazan has increased by 44 %. As
of 2026, the municipal outdoor lighting infrastructure comprises more than
180,000 light points, 113,310 lighting poles, and 4,100 kilometers of
networks. Fanis Nurmukhametov, Director of Kazenergo, reported these figures at
a staff meeting.
“We can definitely see that Kazan is becoming
increasingly well‑lit. Residents, as well as tourists, are able to observe the
ongoing transformations. However, this result should not be regarded as a
reason to curtail efforts. Outdoor lighting is a key factor in ensuring the
comfort and safety of the city’s inhabitants. Importantly, the scope of
lighting improvements is no longer limited to the main city locations. The modernization
efforts have also encompassed residential neighborhoods, parks, public squares,
municipal streets, and courtyard areas. We will continue this work,”- said the
Mayor of Kazan.
The development of the
city’s lighting infrastructure is being implemented as part of comprehensive
programs aimed at improving public spaces, renovating the street and road
network. Over the past five years, an additional 84,000 light sources have
appeared, including installations for architectural lighting.
A significant progress has
been achieved over the last three years under the Our Yard program:
12,077 lamps and 8,252 lighting poles have been installed, and
160 kilometers of cable lines have been laid. This work allows enhancing
the illumination levels in residential yards and contribute to a safer and more
comfortable urban environment.
“The Our Yard program has made our
city much brighter where major repairs have already taken place,”- the Mayor noted.
This year, landscaping work
at several key public spaces included the installation of 56 lighting
poles and the laying of 2 kilometers of cable lines. These works were
carried out at Tabriz Square, on Serova Street, the observation deck in Gorky
Park, and the square near the Butlerov monument.
Fanis Nurmukhametov noted
that such measures contribute not only to improving illumination and safety in
residential and public areas but also to shaping an aesthetically appealing
urban infrastructure.
The city’s road network is
undergoing systematic modernization. In 2026, 2,500 new lighting units
have been installed along the city’s roads. Initial lighting works were carried
out on Admiralteiskaya, Privokzalnaya, and Obnorsky streets.
Special attention is paid on
architectural illumination. To date, 288 buildings in Kazan are equipped
with such lighting solutions. Kazenergo continues to implement lighting
projects at socially significant institutions, historical buildings, and
cultural heritage sites. These include the Teacher’s House on Podluzhnaya
Street, the Yardam Inclusion Centre, Zilant Square, and the Church of
St. Nicholas of Tula.
