Road repairs are
nearing completion in Kazan: to date, 96% of the work in the city has been
completed. The repair of one of the most difficult sections with a length of 6
km in the Aviastroitelny city district is also being completed. Besides the
road surface, the stormwater drainage system is being restored. The Mayor of
Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected the progress of the work.
The Mayor emphasized that the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov
supported the implementation of road programs. Repairs on Petra Vitera Street and
Mikhaila Milya Street required not only the asphalt works, but also a complete
restoration of utility networks.
“The road repairs on Petra
Vitera and Mikhail Milya Streets are among our largest projects in terms of
both scale and the complexity of the overhaul. The main challenge was a
reservoir located nine meters underground. We managed to fully reconstruct it
without blocking traffic. As of today, the main works are complete, traffic has
been restored, and we are finishing the final touches. All scheduled road works
will be completed by October 30. We hope that next year, with support from
federal and national projects, we will be able to carry out a similar volume of
work,” said Ilsur Metshin.
Petra Vitera and
Mikhaila Milya Streets serve as a vital transport link between the
Aviastroitelny district and the rest of the city. The renovation covered a
total of 6 kilometers. The roadway had become impassable due to deep ruts,
which obstructed vehicle traffic and hindered effective snow removal in winter.
However, before laying the new asphalt, specialists had to address the root
cause of the subsidence: the critically worn-out storm sewer system.
A significant road collapse
occurred here two years ago. Subsequent inspection determined that the
collector required full reconstruction. To eliminate the need for a complete
road opening, specialists employed spiral winding technology, which enables the
pipeline to be restored from within without extensive excavation or blocking
traffic. “We literally created a new pipe within the existing one. We utilized
a reinforced plastic profile with interlocking joints, filling the annular
space with a special compound,” said Albert Shainurov, Chairman of the
Committee for External Improvement. Furthermore, 30 wells were restored across
the site to mitigate the risk of recurring subsidence and roadway depressions.
