The construction
of a sewage pumping station and pressure pipelines for storm sewers on Bari Galeeva
Street is nearing completion in Kazan. The facility is designed to address
flooding issues in the neighborhood. The pumping station will serve the streets
of Nikolai Ershova, Bari Galeeva, Razvedchika Akhmerova and Novatorov, Yunus
Akhmetzyanov Passage, part of Kosmonavtov Street. It is planned to complete the
construction by the end of November. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected
the progress of the work.
The construction
of new municipal infrastructure became necessary, as the existing networks
could no longer handle the increased load. Deputy Head of the Executive
Committee Igor Kulyazhev reported this to Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, noting
that due to the district's active development, the catchment area has expanded
from 30 to 68 hectares. The old main collector, with a diameter of 1,000 mm,
had fallen into disrepair: water pressure and soil movement caused its walls to
deform and crack, and several inspection wells collapsed. This resulted in
asphalt subsidence in residential courtyards and persistent flooding.
“The collector was
overloaded, had fallen into disrepair. There were cracks, as well as the
sinkholes of the roadbed. Therefore, this issue had to be addressed,” explained
Igor Kulyazhev.
Repairing the old
collector using traditional methods proved impossible, as the pipeline was laid
at a depth of 8 to 9 meters within a dense residential area.
The new station
will be the largest-capacity of the nine similar facilities in Kazan. It is
equipped with two pumps, each with a capacity 828 cubic meters per hour. This
will ensure the efficient removal of large volumes of storm water runoff, even
during peak bad weather.
“We hope the new
sewage pumping station will operate reliably. It features two pumps: one main
and one backup. This will improve water drainage in the surrounding
neighborhoods and prevent storm sewer failures that could lead to emergencies,”
said Igor Kulyazhev.
