Figure Skating Center opens in Kazan

A Figure Skating Center has opened in the Vakhitovsky district of Kazan. The Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin took part in the opening ceremony. The new sports venue with an area of more than 6,000 square meters provides necessary conditions for the training of future champions and the development of figure skating in the republic. The building is equipped with an ice arena with synthetic ice and stands for 252 seats.
The total area of the venue is over 6,000 square meters. There is a warm-up area, a gym and two choreographic halls, as well as a cardio training area.
Rustam Minnikhanov and Ilsur Metshin inspected the quality of the construction work. The Rais of Tatarstan noted that the venue is equipped with everything necessary to bring forth the talents of young athletes and improve the skills of experienced figure skaters. “I am sure that future champions are being trained here, who will glorify our city and the republic at the major sports competitions,”- said Rustam Minnikhanov.
On August 30, the republican figure skating sports school will start operating at the new sports complex.
Presently, there are 26 figure skating sports schools in Tatarstan. As many as 2,100 athletes and 84 coaches train there. About 40 competitions in this sport are held annually in the republic.
