Over 110
thousand people visited Sabantuy in Kazan this weekend, 20% of them came from
other regions of Russia. At the festive sites, Kazan residents and visitors of
the capital of Tatarstan ate 23 thousand ice creams, almost a ton of chak-chak,
650 kg of kebab and 500 kg of pilaf, as well as drank 300 liters of tea. 2,500 artists
entertained the visitors of the festive sites. This was announced today at the Business
Monday in the Executive Committee of Kazan by the head of the Department of
Culture Azat Abzalov.
Ilsur Metshin,
the Mayor of Kazan, noted that Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and
Tatarstan State Councilor Mintimer Shaimiev highly appreciated the organization
of Sabantuy in the city.
The main celebrations
were held in two days – on June 18 and 19. On Saturday, a horse race was held
at the Kazan hippodrome with a prize drawing and festive salute. “10 thousand people
visited the hippodrome, a program of 14 races was presented for them, among
which were races for the Kazan Mayor’s prize of 300 thousand rubles and a race
for the prize of the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by Volga
Bulgaria with a prize fund of 500 thousand rubles,”- A.Abzalov reported. The
winners became stallion Photon and jockey Magomet Kappushev, the stallion
Akbuzat Star and jockey Timur Gafarov.
On Sunday, June
19, the celebrations took place in the Birch groves of the villages of Mirny
and Derbyshki, as well as in the park area of Lake Lebyazhye.
A finishing
highlight of Sabantuy was the determination of the absolute batyr in the Tatar
national wrestling – kurash. 253 athletes participated in the competition.
Rinat Davletshin won the competitions in Mirny, Airat Fatkhullin became a
winner in Derbyshki, Bulat Musin won in Lebyazhye. “Absolute batyrs were
presented with a sheep and a quad bike,” - A.Abzalov said.
This year
Sabantuy will be celebrated in 58 regions of Russia and more than 30 countries worldwide.
