The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin today inspected the progress of reconstruction works at the biological sewage treatment facilities (BSTF). The works are carried out under the Improvement of the Volga federal project of the Ecology national project and the regional program for the construction of treatment facilities. The range of imported items used at the facility and solutions for its replacement were discussed at the meeting.
The first stage of reconstruction will be completed by 2023
The large-scale renovation of treatment facilities, which is being carried out for the first time after their commissioning in 1974, will contribute to the development of the city, the construction of housing and industrial enterprises, the Mayor noted. Now 450 thousand cubic meters of wastewater deliver to the treatment facilities daily, where they are treated, and then return to the Volga.
“After the implementation of the project, we will be able to receive and treat 650 thousand cubic meters of sewage every day. This is crucial for the development of the city, connecting new facilities to the sewerage networks”, - I.Metshin emphasized.
At the first stage, which should be completed by 2023, it is planned to reconstruct an air blower station, a second-stage grit drainage, four primary and six secondary final clarifiers, and four aeration tanks.
Andrey Egorov, Director General of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise Vodokanal, reported to the Mayor that two aeration tanks, two final clarifiers, a channel of treated wastewater, five silt pumping stations, a sand dewatering building, a transformer substation, a central distribution substation and an administrative building have already been built.
The second stage, which is scheduled for 2023-2024, will include the reconstruction of the grid building No.1, the first stage sand trap, eight primary clarifiers, seven aeration tanks, eight secondary settling tanks and other types of work.
Import substitution issues will be resolved shortly
Ilsur Metshin raised the issue of the work of the facility under the new economic conditions. “The share of the main technological equipment of Russian production - pumping units, shut-off valves, pipelines installed at the facilities of the enterprise (pumping stations, water intake and treatment facilities) is more than 70%”,- A.Egorov said.
He added that most of the imported equipment installed at biological sewage treatment facilities could be replaced by a production of local or Asian manufacturers.
“This project provided for imported components, including pumping equipment, analysis devices and other specialized equipment. Now, together with the Tatarstan Ministry of Construction, Architecture, Housing and Utilities, we are working on the issues of replacing equipment with domestic equivalents”, - said Rafis Sibgatullin, the head of the contracting organization “VTS” LLC.
Ilsur Metshin noted that more than 60 million people live near the Volga, and the quality of water is important for the health and well-being of residents Kazan and other cities. “The reconstruction of treatment facilities is a strategic project that primarily affects the quality of life of future generations of Kazan residents. Despite the difficulties that arise, we definitely need to complete it”, - the Mayor of Kazan said.
