Today, the leaders of the Republic of Tatarstan and its capital laid flowers at the Eternal Flame and at the Monument to Mothers and Widows of Fallen Soldiers in Kazan’s Pobedy Park to celebrate the 67th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The solemn ceremony was attended by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Prime Minister of the Republic Ildar Khalikov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, State Councillor of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, Tatarstan’s State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin and other officials. Those present at the ceremony honored the memory of the deceased by a minute of silence.
A festive parade was held at Svobody Square. Kazan garrison troops marched ceremonially through the square. A total of 1,800 troops under the command of Major-General Valery Mironchenko took part in the procession.
The highlight of the day was the fireworks display, which was fired from two points: Pobedy Park and the waters of the river Kazanka. The colorful fireworks of 1,100 salvos lit up the night sky at 10 p.m. and lasted five minutes.
