Modern buildings, improved security and pancakes for breakfast: The Mayor of Kazan inspected the readiness of the Vostok camp

Children's camps in Kazan are preparing for the beginning of the summer season. About 200 teenagers per a session will spend their summer holidays at the renovated Vostok camp, which will open on 31 May. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected the readiness of the recreational facility.

“This year we are opening one more camp, renovated under the Tatarstan President’s program. Vostok has increased its capacity and changed significantly. This camp was established 60 years ago. Yuri Gagarin and other outstanding people visited the camp back then”, - the Mayor said.

I.Metshin noted that this year the issue of safety of children is under special control. “This camp and all the others have been checked and meet the requirements. We are prepared. We paid special attention to the protection of children. But, of course, much will depend on the directors and teachers”, - he said. Ayrat Faizov, chair of the Committee for Children and Youth Affairs of Kazan, told the Mayor that all buildings in the camp are equipped with an automatic fire alarm system and an evacuation alert system. Video surveillance cameras are installed in crowded places. There are 2 panic buttons – one of them is located at the guard, and the second - at the director’s office.

Previously, on the territory of the Vostok camp there were 4 brick one-story buildings, where up to 10 children lived in each room, a dining room, a club, a medical center, storage rooms and outdoor bathrooms. It could take only 420 children per year. After the renovation, the camp expanded to 7 buildings, each with portraits of outstanding cosmonauts on the front. Bedrooms in all buildings are designed for 5 people. According to A.Faizov, everything is ready for the arrival of children here.

In the camp there are sports grounds, a club and a summer bandstand. Special attention is paid to the children's health – a modern medical unit has been built for this purpose. The improved dining room is designed for 180 children at a time. For the first time in Kazan, children will be offered buffet meals. It is also planned to introduce an interactive element. For example, the chefs will cook pancakes for breakfast right here, so that the children can see the process.

A lot of work has been done to create unique skills sessions. For this purpose, experts from various industries were involved, A. Faizov said. It is planned that in the Vostok camp children will get acquainted with the history of space conquest and aircraft construction. According to him, the most popular is the session of technical and engineering creativity. It will be held jointly with the educational center “Technopolis KAI”.

“We hope that our children in the camps will improve their health, relax and learn a lot. We agreed that our universities will take patronage over them and will conduct educational sessions. We wish you a good vacation,”- the Mayor of Kazan said in conclusion.
