Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, announced the establishment of the Institute of City Development in Kazan

This year, it is planned to establish the Institute of City Development in Kazan, which will bring together the best designers from Russia and abroad. This was announced by the Mayor of the city Ilsur Metshin at a meeting with students and graduates of the Kazan State University of Architecture and Construction, organized within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology, which started this week.

In addition to the students, young architects - graduates of the university, who obtained grants of the Mayor of Kazan, attended the meeting. The young specialists who are currently working or practicing abroad also joined them via video link.

“We would like to see the talents of our graduates here – in Kazan, in Tatarstan”

“We have obtained Tatarstan government support, and this year we will establish the Institute of City Development, where we are going to accumulate the best architectural forces,-the Mayor said at the meeting. – Graduates of our universities will be among them, including those working abroad. We all come together with new tasks, new forces and new content to work on improving and developing our city”.

The establishment of the Institute of City Development will allow involving talented architects who are currently working abroad, while avoiding bureaucracy.

“You will have an opportunity to cooperate with this institute, implement your plans and unique projects, and help us develop the city infrastructure. We would like to see the talents of our graduates here – in Kazan, in Tatarstan, come to us and share your ideas”, -the head of the city said.

Architectural Forum as a platform for new ideas for the development of Kazan

Kazan has a unique experience in improving the skills of architecture students: the city has been holding a competition for Kazan Mayor’s grant for several years, the winners of which get the opportunity to take internships abroad in the best architectural bureaus. For many students of KGASU, the competition became a springboard for implementation their creative potential.

Improving the skills of students is of great importance for the development of the city, the Mayor said. “After the Millennium of Kazan, we thought about how to change Kazan, how to find new growth points, - the Mayor said. - And the answer was in plain view – this is our youth. Creative, talented students, who need to get an appropriate education, see the best world practices and try to change Kazan together with us. We are proud of your success. You are professional architects, our golden reserve. Discover what we are doing in Kazan, share your ideas, and participate in the development of the city. We are always ready to cooperate with you”, - I.Metshin said.

The Mayor proposed to hold a forum in Kazan on the base of the University of Architecture, inviting graduates who work today not only in Kazan, but also in other cities of Russia and the world. “Let all interested graduates of our university come to this forum, we will provide logistics. You can also join via video link – the head of the city said. – You will be able to present your portfolio, your experience, and in the future, when we start building something new, bearing in mind your potential. We need to meet, exchange opinions, communicate”.

The forum is planned to be held in autumn.

At the end of the meeting, the Mayor once again called on novice architects to share ideas for the development of the city.
