Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, was re-elected
Chairman of the Association of Cities of the Volga Region. This decision was
made today at the annual general meeting of the members of the Association,
which took place online.
The head of the Cheboksary administration Alexey Ladykov
submitted the candidacy of the Mayor of Kazan for consideration by the members
of the Association. He emphasized that today, under the leadership of Ilsur Metshin,
Kazan is one of the most dynamically developing cities not only in the Volga region,
but also in the world. “By many indicators, Kazan is a benchmark – in terms of
the development of the urban environment, security, landscaping, and this is
the merit of the city's leadership. Ilsur Metshin has demonstrated a unique
talent in managing such a complex system as the capital of the republic of
Tatarstan, as well as high professionalism and rich experience,”-Alexey Ladykov
addressed the members of the Association.
Candidacy of Ilsur Metshin for the post of Chairman of
the Association of Cities of the Volga region was approved unanimously.

On October 27, 1998 the first general meeting of heads
of seven largest cities of the Volga region – Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza,
Samara, Saratov, Ulyanovsk, Cheboksary took place in Samara. At the meeting, an
agreement was signed on the establishment of the Association – a new structure
for interaction between municipalities.
Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, was elected Chairman
of the Association of Cities of the Volga region in October 2014 and re-elected
to this post in 2017.
