Kazan is the second largest city in Russia after
Moscow in terms of accessibility of infrastructure for separate collection of
solid waste. Iskander Giniyatullin, deputy head of the Executive Committee,
told about this today at the Business Monday at the Executive Committee of
Kazan.
In Kazan, separate solid waste collection began in
2018. “Currently, almost 80% of the city's residential buildings are equipped
with containers for separate waste collection into recyclable and
non-recyclable sections on a dual principle. In two years, 174 modern container
sites equipped with trash enclosures for separate waste collection have been
built in the city”, - Iskander Giniyatullin reported.
С
2018 года в образовательную программу включены уроки экологического воспитания.
Since 2018, the educational program includes classes in
environmental education.
A pilot project on the use of recycling machines has
been implemented in 20 schools of the city, said I.Giniyatullin.
The city also implements projects of major global
companies for the collection and processing of recyclable materials. “The
interactive educational project Zero Waste Lab has started working in the
Gorkinsky-Ometyevsky forest, which is becoming an educational ecological
cluster. Information boards and bins for separate waste collection are
installed for visitors, and street furniture made from recycled plastic is used
as an example of efficient use of recyclable materials in the park. It seeks to
achieve one goal – to promote a responsible attitude to waste among our
citizens”, - I.Giniyatullin reminded.
“This is a big and very difficult job. We study the
best world practices and understand that many developed countries have passed
and continue to walk this way not even for 10-15-20 years. Therefore, we should
not wait for immediate results, but we see results every day, weekly, monthly,
and annually. We are grateful to our concerned residents, our main associates, for
going this way together”, - said Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan.
The Mayor noted that there are still a minority of
residents who consciously recycle, so it is important to continue working, talk
about separate waste collection and systematically raise this issue.
