The work on
eco-rehabilitation and improvement of Maryino Lake has been completed in the
Novo-Savinovsky district of Kazan. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected
the transformation of the eco-park.
The SMU-88 construction company took the initiative to
improve the lake in 2018. Before starting work, the lake was studied by
scientists of the Kazan Federal University.
Eco-rehabilitation of the lake started in April 2020. There
was a huge work to be done – 10 containers of garbage were removed from the
bottom and shores of the lake. The major stage of eco-rehabilitation was to
remove bottom sediments and excess plants, which allowed to open exit of ground
water and saturate the water with oxygen.
The area of Maryino Lake is 8.2 thousand sq.m. Despite its
small size, the water reservoir is very important for the ecosystem of the
district – it is home to frogs, silver carp, Chinese sleeper, several dozen
species of insects, 80 species of aquatic and coastal plants, and many
microorganisms. Muskrats also live there, as well as birds like wild duck, tufted
duck, black tern and long eared owl and water hen, listed in the Red book.
Ilya Wolfson, Director of SMU-88 construction company, added
that the opinion of residents of neighboring houses was taken into account when
developing the improvement plan.
