Ilsur Metshin, the mayor of Kazan, visited the boarding
school № 2 in the Moskovsky district, where major overhaul has been carried out
in the amount of 50 million rubles. Now, it is one of the best specialized
schools in the country for gifted children. The head of the city talked with
teachers and students and noted that the development of infrastructure plays an
important role in improving the quality of education.

The lyceum building on Usmanova street, 11, where in Soviet
period was located the boarding school, was built in 1964. The lyceum was
founded in 1992. Today, it has 13 classes from 5 to 11, with 285 students.
Among them, less than a half, are 120 students from
other cities. Children from 22 districts of Tatarstan and 12 regions of Russia
study at the lyceum.
The number of students, who want to study at the lyceum,
is much higher than its capacity – this year the enrollment competition was 10 candidates
for one student position.
The children live in a dormitory block on Bakaleynaya
street, 41. It was built in 1973 and accommodates 180 people. The major overhaul
has been carried out in the building under the Republican program, 50 million
rubles were allocated for it. During the repair, the front facade, catering
unit, and roof were renovated. Windows were replaced, communications were
repaired, and new furniture and equipment were purchased.
When visiting the lyceum, the mayor of Kazan Ilsur
Metshin drew attention to the wall of honor -a stand with photos of Academic Olympiad
medalists. According to the Director of the lyceum, last year 13 students won
the All-Russian Academic Olympiad. More than a hundred students are winners of
the regional stage of the Academic Olympiad.

Experienced teachers, including the winners of
the All – Russian contest “Teacher of the year”, mathematics teacher Almaz
Khamidullin and biology teacher Nail Mirsaitov, educate the contestants. By the
way, in one of the classrooms that the mayor visited, Nail Mirsaitov taught a
biology lesson in English. The head of the city talked to the children and
wished them success in their studies.
In the hall,
the head of the city met students who had an elocution lesson. He recommended students
to take the lesson seriously and gave professional advices.
The head of the city also visited the lesson of the
center for youth innovative creativity. This is a Federal network of platforms
for teaching children IT technologies and engineering. The children presented
their projects to the head of the city. “You are great talented kids! Our
pride. Keep studying. I am sure that we will see other projects in the future”,
- I.Metshin told the children. He noted that the development of infrastructure
and equipping educational institutions with modern devices, where children conduct
experiments, plays an important role in improving the quality of education.
After visiting the classrooms, the mayor played table
tennis with the children who were resting on recess.
In conclusion, the mayor thanked the teachers and principals
for their work in educating and training talented children and wished them
further development.
