The mayor of the capital of Tatarstan Ilsur Metshin
met the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Kazan Ismet Erikan. The
meeting, which was held at the Executive Committee of the city, was attended by
the vice-mayor of Kazan Evgenia Lodvigova. The parties discussed the prospects
for further cooperation between Kazan and the cities of the Republic of Turkey.
Greeting the Consul, the mayor reminded that the
Republic of Tatarstan and Turkey have long-standing friendly relations.
Cooperation is conducted within the framework of the agreement on trade and
economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation.
Kazan has established twin-city relations with four
Turkish cities: Eskisehir, Istanbul, Antalya and Ankara. Since September 1996,
the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey has been functioning in the
capital of Tatarstan.
The capital of the Republic successfully cooperates
with Turkish cities in the field of tourism. In 2017, 3455 Turkish citizens
visited Kazan, and last year – 4624 people. The growth of number of tourists is
provided by the direct flights from Kazan to the cities of Turkey.
In his turn, Ismet Erikan thanked the head of the
capital of Tatarstan for the joint work and expressed confidence that the
cooperation between Kazan and Turkish cities will continue to develop.
