(KZN.RU, December 25, Ksenia Shvetsova). This year, 13 thousand large-sized trees were planted in Kazan, the total area of parks and public gardens is 375 hectares. The capital of Tatarstan today is 2 times of the national standard for the number of green spaces per inhabitant. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, spoke about this today during the program “Theme” on the TV channel “Efir”.
The question of planting new green spaces was raised by one of the residents of the city, who asked how much attention was paid to this topic. Ilsur Metshin answered that back in 2012, the issue of gardening in the capital of Tatarstan was very acute. “There were 220 thousand large trees for 300 thousand cars. We discussed this issue with concerned citizens, with business representatives. For several years, we managed to solve this problem”, said the Mayor. He noted that since 2012, 195 thousand large-sized trees have been planted in Kazan.
In addition, 20 new parks and squares appeared in the capital of Tatarstan. Thanks to the republican program “Parks and Squares”, which is supervised by the President of the RT, the area of green areas in Kazan has increased by 131 hectares and today is 375 hectares. “Our city is green. The Russian standard is 25 square meters of green space per person. We already have almost 2 times more than the standard: 49 square meters. And we do not stop this work, it is always in our priority”, said I. Metshin.
He also added that every year, more and more flowers are planted in the city in the summer. In 2018, 7 million annual plants were planted in flower beds. 12 thousand flower pots were installed.
This year alone 8 public spaces were improved in Kazan with funds allocated for the federal priority project “Formation of a comfortable urban environment”. In total, Kazan today has 134 parks and squares.
