(KZN.RU, June 4, Alsu Safina). Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, set the task to Ilnar Khidiyatov, the head of the Department of Education, to improve the quality of education in Kazan and bring it to a new level. “There should not be schools-outsiders in the capital of Tatarstan. This will allow the children to have equal conditions for starting in the future”, he marked, having heard the preliminary results of the completed academic year.
Ilsur Metshin reminded that, together with heads of structural units and heads of district administrations, he visited the recent reports of school principals, including those where the results leave much to be desired. There are objective and subjective reasons for this. “In general, we have outlined for ourselves a plan for 23 schools that we are going to implement. We hope that in the next academic year, we will see tangible results and bring those who are at the bottom of the “tournament table” closer to the middle”, said I. Metshin.
In this regard, the attention will be paid not only to such issues as capital repair of schools and the successful passing of the Unified State Examination and certification of 9 grades. As Ilsur Metshin noted, rotation of personnel, development and introduction of new technologies, the study of best practices of the best schools of Tatarstan and outside the republic are necessary.
Summing the results of the final academic year, the Mayor noted that it was not an easy one for schools, especially for managers and the director's corps. “The issue of teaching the Tatar language has become acute. Once again it became obvious that not only the repair of buildings is needed. It is necessary to carefully approach and revise the methodology of teaching our native languages in Kazan”, said the mayor adding that a whole number of other issues were revealed. “The solution of the problem will be found. But on the basis of some social contract. This issue cannot be solved by directives and directions”, believes I. Metshin.
“At the same time, our education system continued to work effectively”, marked the head of the city. Confirmation of this is the successes of Kazan schoolchildren at the republican, Russian and international Olympiads. Kazan continues to occupy the third place after Moscow and St. Petersburg by the number of prize places in the All-Russian Olympiad.
The number of winners of the regional stage of the All-Russian Olympiad of schoolchildren from Kazan increased by 20% compared to the previous year (471 students). 159 Kazan schoolchildren took part in the final stage of the All-Russian Olympiad, 73 of them became prize-winners. Four Kazan students became absolute winners and became part of the Russian national team. Winners of the All-Russian Olympiad were trained by 24 schools. In addition, Kazan schoolchildren won 26 awards in international Olympiads where they won 7 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze medals, 1 grand prix, and another six students became prize-winners.
Ilsur Metshin also called a good result that Lyceum №131 entered the top 25 best schools in Russia. According to the Mayor, this educational institution is the pride of the city. In addition, another 16 schools are included in the top 500 best schools in Russia. “This is the result of the systematic work of our education, it shows the quality of teaching in Kazan schools”, believes the head of the city.
Ilsur Metshin thanked the principals of schools and teachers for their work. “Diamonds shine when it’s been shaped by good hands. This is what our teachers do, systematically engaging our children, showing stable good results year after year”, said the Mayor.
