The third stage of improvement of the Nizhny Kaban Lake embankment will begin in Kazan this year. It will cover a section of Marjani Street – from Nazarbayeva Street to Zaini Sultana Street. A continuous walking route around the lake with a length of 5 km will be formed and the connections of the embankment with the surrounding neighborhoods will be improved. The project was presented today at the Galiaskar Kamal theater to the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and the journalists.
Ilsur Metshin recalled the history of landscaping of the Kaban Lake, which began almost two decades ago. He noted that the development of the area is changing not only the appearance of the city, but also the economy of the surrounding neighborhoods.
«The landscaping of the area at Kaban Lake resembles circles on the water. We started this work back in 2007 with the fountain at the old building of Galiaskar Kamal theater. Then there was the stage of the revival of the Old Tatar settlement: the resettlement of dilapidated houses, the restoration of historical sites, opening of the first hotels and restaurants for the Universiade. Later, with the support of the Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov an international competition was held, which was won by a Russian-Chinese consortium, and the first part of the embankment appeared – from Tatenergo to the new building of Galiaskar Kamal theater. Next, we reconstructed the bridge from Nazarbayeva Street to Vakhitova Square.
Today, the Kaban Lake embankment is a looped five–kilometer route. This is the largest landscaped coastal area around the lake in Russia, which is visited annually by 1.2 million people», - said Ilsur Metshin.
Sketches at the new Galiaskar Kamal theater were presented by Nailya Nagumanova, Director of the Urban Development Institute of Tatarstan. The improvement project of the third stage of the embankment is designed for several years. Residents will see the first changes in 2026 on the lower level of the embankment, which is about one and a half kilometers long. This area will be connected into a single pedestrian line. Decking and a walking area with convenient descents will be set up above the water in the area of the monument to Shigabutdin Marjani, KSK street and Nursultana Nazarbayeva street. An observation deck will be equipped on Kunche street.
One of the key elements of the renovated embankment will be a light and music fountain in front of the Galiaskar Kamal Theater.
