78 Kazan students became winners of the All-Russian Olympiad in 2017

Kazan pupils have beaten last year's record in the number of victories at the final stage of the All-Russian Olympiad of schoolchildren in 2017. 78 people became winners of the Olympiads, which makes up 56% of the total number of winners in Tatarstan. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, highly appreciated the results and noted that the level of achievements can and should be improved at today’s 95th city August conference of educators, which was held at the Volga Academy of Physical Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

The Mayor of Kazan noted that “the Kazan education, our schools, our teachers, our students are traditionally leaders in most positions both in the republic and in Russia”. “We have the third place in the all-Russian school Olympiads. We are ahead of mega-cities with serious scientific bases and traditions, such as Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg, following just the two capitals, but ahead of them in terms of specific gravity. This is the subject of our pride and the result of joint efforts of teachers, parents, and, of course, the children themselves”, added I. Metshin.

Ilsur Hadiullin, the head of the Education Department of Kazan, said in his report that it was possible to reach a wide coverage of schoolchildren in participating in Olympiads and contests. According to him, the capital of Tatarstan takes the third place in the overall standings of the final stage of the All-Russian Olympiads, second only to Moscow and St. Petersburg. Also, the number of winners of the regional stage of the All-Russian Olympiads has increased by 18%(from 331 to 391 people).

Today, 52 winners of 12 international Olympiads are in Kazan. According to I. Hadiullin, 28 schools have prepared winners of the All-Russian Olympiads of 2017. The Vakhitovsky district is in the first place, the Privolzhsky district is located in second. The third place was shared by the Sovetsky and Novo-Savinovsky districts.

I. Metshin instructed to prepare proposals on the growth of Kazan school children achievements at the Olympiads. “I ask you to consult with the professionals, with teachers, directors, and parents. What and how we still need to do so that the young Kazan citizens not only won the third place but could also apply for the second. I'm waiting for your suggestions”, said the head of the city.

The head of the Education Department spoke about the need to create a reserve of talented students of primary schools through the system of competitions, the development of a partnership with universities, the organization of scientific counseling, and support of gifted children.

I. Hadiullin also summed up the results of the academic year. In particular, the speaker reported on the implementation of the USE, announced the construction of new kindergartens and schools in the capital of Tatarstan, methods of working with teachers and students, and more.

He said that today, about 68 thousand children are covered by the preschool education program but the problem of priority in kindergartens for children from one-and-a-half to six years is still relevant. In addition, he mentioned the topic of inclusive education, the association of schools in training centers, additional education, the study of the Tatar language, and more.

Andrey Pominov, the first deputy minister of Education and Science of the RT, Denis Kalinkin, the head of the Kazan Executive Committee, Damir Fattakhov, the first deputy head of the Executive Committee, Ilsur Hadiullin, the head of Education Department of Kazan, Razil Valeev, the chairman of the State Council Committee on Education, Culture, Science, and National Issues, and others also took part in the city's August conference of educators.
