A daily monitoring of water levels in rivers is set in Kazan in preparation for the spring flood

Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, instructed the urban services to accelerate the installation of warning signs of melting ice in order to avoid accidents in places of unauthorized pedestrian crossings on ice ponds at today's Business Monday in the Executive Committee.

Igor Kulyazhev, the deputy head of the Executive Committee and the chairman of the Committee of improvements, said about the installation of warning signs in urban coastal areas in preparation for the flood. I. Kulyazhev also said that road services are working on the snow removal from the roadway of streets and the surrounding areas in order to reduce the negative consequences of the spring flood. In total, 550 thousand ton of snow removed from the beginning of the winter. In addition, services are engaged in cleaning and deepening drainage ditches, cleaning the riverbeds of the seedlings, pumping meltwater, and cleaning stormwater system.

According to I. Kulyazhev, the cleaning of 216 km of stormwater networks was carried over last four years in Kazan, which is 58% of the total network length. “The works were carried out not only on the main roads of the city but also on the driveways of houses in adjoining areas, which are equipped with stormwater networks. Also preventive measures to restore the capacity of the stormwater drain were made in residential areas Igumnovo and Severny”, said the chairman of the Committee of improvements.

This year, it is planned to clear about 30 km of the network. In addition, more than 4.5 thousand inlets were cleared of snow and ice to ensure the passage of melt water, and daily water level control in rivers is set for the duration of the flood. “The revision of the pumping equipment is carried out in the underground pedestrian crossings, cleaning of stormwater is carrying out. Sandbags, wooden ladders and reserve scavenge means procured for emergencies”, said the speaker.
