November 3, Mikhail Chentsov). The General Consulate of the People's Republic
of China will open in Kazan in the near future. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of
Kazan, met with Mr. Cheng Wei, the acting General Consul of China, in the
capital of Tatarstan. Rustam Nigmatullin, the first deputy head of the
municipal formation of Kazan, and Daria Sannikova, the director of Kazan
Committee of Tourism Promotion, attended the meeting, which was held at the
Executive Committee of the city.

greeted the guests from China and said that the future opening of the General
Consulate in Kazan is the long-awaited and important event in the political
life of the capital of Tatarstan. The Mayor also said that the cooperation of
Kazan with the China cities is built mainly on the basis of agreements on the
establishment of twin cities. “We have a lot of joint projects in the field of
business, culture and sport. We would like to develop this cooperation. And the
opening of the consulate is certainly a big step in the development of our
bilateral relations”, marked I. Metshin.
Mr. Cheng
Wei thanked the Mayor of Kazan for the warm welcome and for a personal meeting,
in spite of the busy schedule of the Mayor. The General Consul shared his
impressions of the city. “I liked Kazan from the first glance. The city impressed
me with its beauty and sights. Kazan is called the capital of sport not for
nothing, and Kazan is not inferior to Moscow and St. Petersburg in the sphere
of tourism. I am very happy to work here”, said the acting General Consul.

expressed his confidence that the relations between the parties will be
developed. “92 students from China studying in our schools, our builders are
using your advanced technology. I am sure that the Consulate General of China
in the capital of our country will allow us to strengthen partnerships and to
establish even closer cooperation between our cities”, concluded the Mayor of
Kazan.
