I. Metshin: “There is a lot of work on improving the sports infrastructure”

During 10 months of 2016, Kazan held 6 world championships, 7 Championship of Russia, Executive Committee of the city held 197 sports events on 54 kinds of sports, reported Svetlana Vostrikova, the chairman of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sport, today to Kazan deputies at the XI session of the Kazan State Duma.

According to her, the number of sports facilities in the capital of Tatarstan increased by 321 units over five years: now the city has 15 stadiums, 12 indoor ice arenas, 49 swimming pools, 371 sports hall, 860 plane sports-ground, and 616 other structures. 79 plastic hockey boxes and 5 lit ski tracks are functioning in the city.

42 sports schools develop 52 kinds of sports. More than 24 thousand students are engaged in there, half of them have sports categories. 668 full-time trainers and 122 pluralists conduct classes. 111 trainers were retrained and passed the refresher courses for 10 months.

The chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Committee also reported that 8 out of 31 sports facilities, which were built for the Universiade in Kazan, were transferred to municipal ownership. 18 sports facilities were transferred to the universities of Kazan, which are in federal ownership.

In response to deputies' questions, Svetlana Vostrikova noted that one hour is allocated to each municipal facility for physical education classes in secondary schools. For example, 7 secondary schools conduct physical education classes at the sports complex “Vatan”, in the “Triumph” – six schools.

It is planned to hold a “Sports Graduation Ball”, to sum up the results of Kazan sport and to revive sports contest “Sport Kazan” in 2017.

Ilsur Metshin noted that much for the development of physical culture and sports have been done in recent years. “The ability to provide citizens with comfortable sport halls appeared thanks to major events in Kazan. Many yards and school grounds were opened, and this work continues”, he said.

“Mega-events are to come: the Confederation Cup and the World Cup, which will be held in Russia for the first time. There is much work to improve the sports infrastructure, along with the children's sports schools, work in the home place, which require serious attention as marked the deputies”, said the Mayor.

Ilsur Metshin expressed the hope that it will be possible to reach a new level in the sphere of physical culture and sport.
