Today the Mayor of Kazan and Mintimer Shaimiev, the State Counselor of the RT, met with Naina Yeltsina, the wife of the first Russian President Boris Yeltsin, and his daughter Tatiana Yumasheva. They came to Kazan to attend the international tennis tournament “Yeltsin Cup-2017”.
The tournament “Yeltsin Cup-2017” was held from February 18 to 26 on the courts of the Kazan Tennis Academy, which is hosting these largest junior competitions for the seventh time in the country. The first tournament was held on February 28, 2011, it was established by the Yeltsin Foundation in the year of the 80th birth anniversary of Boris Yeltsin, the memory of the first Russian President, who did everything to make tennis a popular sport.
“We honor the memory of Boris Yeltsin, the first President of Russia, who has done a lot for our country with great trepidation, respect, and love, and has done a lot for Tatarstan and Kazan. We thank the fund of the first President of Russia, in partnership with which this tournament is taking place. For our part, we will do everything so that Kazan will continue to take these competitions with dignity”, said Ilsur Metshin at the tournament awarding ceremony.
