(Kazan, KZN.RU, June 11, by Zilya Gafiyatullina) Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin and actor Konstantin Khabensky launched a unique project, "Literary Courtyards", today. People's Artist of Russia Konstantin Khabensky and his pupils from Kazan school for creative development of children and adolescents, as well as Kazan poets Lilia Gazizova and Boris Weiner, performed before local residents and their guests in the courtyard at 83 Amirhan Prospekt.
Free exchange of books (BookCrossing), an "I Love Reading" flash mob, master classes on bookmark making, a sidewalk drawing competition, open-air "Literary Courtyard Sketches" and a concert by the RT Youth Symphony Orchestra were held.
Opening the festival, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin noted that even the weather rejoiced in the good initiative. "Congratulations to all on the first rainfall of the season; we've been waiting for it more than a month. It rains when we do good, charitable deeds. This remarkable event was initiated by Tatarstan's Writers' Union and we were happy to support it. There will be more than twenty such “courtyards” in Kazan. Now I'd like you to give a big welcome to our favorite artist Konstantin Khabensky – a person who does a lot for the development of culture in Russia and in our city," said the mayor.
Poetry festivals will be held weekly in different parts of the city throughout the summer. The "Literary Courtyards" project continues the tradition of the recent "book-fest" held in Lyadskoi Garden. It is supported by Kazan Mayor's Office and Tatarstan's Writers' Union as part of the Year of Culture.
