(Kazan KZN.RU, April 29, by Zilya Gafiyatullina ) Several activities will take place around Kazan this summer: installations of hardscape in the Old Tatar Settlement, the project "Singing Fountains" on the square in front of the Kamal theater, “Book-Fest” book fair in city backyards and environs, a number of bandstands along the quays of the Kazanka River and Lake Kaban, as well as screenings of world cinema masterpieces in the movie theater "Mir.” The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin discussed these and other activities that are planned as part of the Year of Culture framework at today’s Business Monday meeting.
Last week, Ilsur Metshin held a roundtable discussion with representatives of the creative intelligentsia. "I found the street festival projects related to the improvement of the urban environment to be of great interest. This includes the installation of bandstands along the quays of the Kazanka River and Lake Kaban and sculptures in the Old Tatar Settlement,” said the Mayor.
According to the head of the city, the hardscape competition with participation of student sculptors deserves special attention. "I saw some of the work in the gallery ‘Khazineh.’ There are some interesting, creative pieces that deserve attention. The most important thing about these sculptures is that they convey the atmosphere of the Old Tatar Settlement. It would be great if we could implement this project in the Year of Culture,” stated the Mayor.
Ilsur Metshin expressed a wish to unite all the events into one big summer street festival and also praised the initiative of Kazan residents. "I am sincerely pleased with the initiative of Kazan residents. The objective for all of us is to get a maximum number of people involved in the Year of Culture events. Everything must be done to make the Year of Culture an outstanding event in our memory,” he said.
