I.Metshin: "Admiralteiskaya Sloboda revival has always been on our mind"
(KZN.RU, March 12, by Ekaterina Andreeva) Reconstruction and development of Admiralteiskaya Sloboda (Admiralty Settlement) is aimed at increasing tourism and investment appeal of one of the oldest districts of Kazan. When discussing the concept of reviving Admiralteiskaya Sloboda, the Kazan mayor noted that the upcoming 300th anniversary of the settlement in 2018 offers a historic opportunity to implement the ideas that have been gestating for years. The revived settlement can become a worthy monument to the Russian state and the glorious history of Kazan.
Recall that the Kazan Admiralteisvo shipyard was founded in 1718 under a decree of Peter the Great. It was located on the arable land belonging to Zilantov Dormition Monastery on the left bank of the river Kazanka. Later, a settlement was founded there. In the post-Petrine time, 400 warships were built at the shipyard, which was Russia's second after St. Petersburg's.
Special attention is paid to making the area attractive to tourists. Thus, Bulat Yakushev, director of LLC "Panbot", a company specializing in building historic boat replicas, proposed to restore the famous gallery "Tver" on which Empress Catherine II and her retinue took a trip down the Volga in the spring of 1767.
