The Rais of
Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin visited school №2,
which is attended by children from 15 regions of Russia and 24 districts of
Tatarstan. There is a high demand for admission to the school, with 12 applicants
per place. However, the current living conditions do not allow accommodate all
the students. The school's administration requested assistance in improving
living conditions and increasing capacity.
As many as 325 students study
at school №2 with in-depth education in natural and mathematical sciences. The
teaching staff includes 45 teachers. Today, a record number of medalists and
winners of All – Russian Olympiads, placing first in the republic and twelfth in Russia
come from this school.
Among the
students of the lyceum is Gimran Abdullin, a winner of the International
Computer Science Olympiad. Previously, he gave Ilsur Metshin a tour of the
residential building of the school. For reference, the lyceum has 18 bedrooms
equipped with bunk beds for up to 8 – 12 children in each room, as well as five bathrooms.
Children can take a break from their studies in the lobby, where they can play table
tennis, listen to music, and play games. Educators also organize tea parties
for students. The children have dinner in the canteen of the residential
building, which has 40 seats.
Since
the opening in 1992, the lyceum has graduated about 1,400 students. They have
enrolled in the best universities not only in Russia, but also in Dubai, China,
Vienna, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. Meetings with them are held twice a year.
The new
building of Tatar Gymnasium №2 is located nearby. The four-story building opened
last year and is designed for 270 students. This has allowed to unload the main
building. A mentoring school has also been opened here, where all activities
are conducted in the Tatar language.
Ramil
Gainullin, the principal of the school, showed the visitors a multifunctional
gym, modern classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards and digital
educational resources, and laboratories. Rustam Minnikhanov spoke with the
children and teachers, particularly Ramil Bagaviev, a young mathematics teacher
who graduated from the school in 2019 and is currently pursuing a Master's
degree at the Kazan Federal University.
The visitors
also looked round the Marjani Museum, which exhibition divided is into six
zones that introduced the life and work of this Tatar enlightener.
