The Molodaya Gvardiya sports and recreation camp opens in Kazan on May
25 after the renovation. Thanks to the construction of 10 buildings, including
four heated, the camp will be able to work all year round and accommodate 170
more children during the summer. Each building is now accessible for children with
disabilities. New sports grounds and a football pitch were built, as well as
new canteen and club buildings. The Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, inspected
the renovation before the opening.
Next week, the Molodaya Gvardiya sports and recreation camp, after a
three-year renovation, will welcome Kazan children. During the summer, 1,120
children and teenagers will be able to spend time there, whereas previously the
camp could accommodate no more than 950 people. In addition to the increase in
the number of beds, the recreation conditions have also changed significantly.
The Molodaya Gvardiya camp in the Lebyazhye Forest Park was built in
1932, the previous reconstruction was carried out in 1961. The buildings were
not equipped with sewerage and water, so the toilet in the camp was located in
a separate building before the renovation, and washbasins were installed outdoor.
The buildings were unheated.
In 2021, the camp was included in the republican renovation program.
During the renovation on an area of 9.37 hectares, almost all the old
buildings were demolished. 10 dormitories and 2 administrative buildings were
built there. They have running water and sewerage. The buildings with a
capacity of up to 30 people each have laundry facilities, showers, drying and
ironing rooms. The bedrooms have beds, bedside tables and wardrobes, and the
halls have sofas, tables and TVs. Club buildings, a 280-seat canteen, a medical
center, and a checkpoint have also been built. Heating was installed in four
sleeping buildings and the dining room building, which allows the camp to operate
all year round.
“To date, we have renovated four children's camps, thanks to which their
capacity has increased by 50-75%, and most importantly, the recreation
conditions have changed significantly. Now the Molodaya Gvardiya camp has been risen
from the ashes like a phoenix. In fact, we have not just repaired, but rebuilt
the camp – with new materials and technologies, new content, new quality,”-
Ilsur Metshin said during a visit to the camp.
Molodaya Gvardiya is one of two country camps with a sports focus. On
its territory there are two mini-football pitches, a large football pitch measuring
90x60 meters with bleachers for 200 seats, a gym with horizontal bars, bars and
ladders, a basketball court and two basketball and volleyball courts with a
rubber coating, treadmills with a jumping pit.
In addition, the camp is accessible for people with disabilities: each
building has not only ramps, but also one equipped room for two people with
disabilities.
The medical center on the territory of the camp will work around the
clock. The building has two patient rooms, a treatment room, doctor's and
nurse's offices.
