Until the end of the school year, security of schools will be strengthened
in Kazan. Kazan will prepare its proposals for the development of new federal
safety standards for schools and preschools. The Mayor of the capital of
Tatarstan Ilsur Metshin said this today at the Business Monday in the Executive
Committee of the city.
“The date of 11 May will forever remain a tragic one in the history of
Kazan. The words of support continue to pour from different cities of Russia
and the world. Nothing compared to losing the children. Thousands, millions of
people all over the world and our country shared this pain,” - I.Metshin said.
He noted that presently, two children who were injured in the shooting were
released from the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital. Thirteen people remain in the hospitals, and 8
more injured remain in Moscow hospitals.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation is conducting an
investigation. Families who have lost their children and relatives have been
provided with assistance, measures have been taken to support the families of
affected children and adults, the head of the city reported.
It was decided to completely renovate the school No. 175.
According to I. Metshin, the security system at school No. 175 worked. All
54 video surveillance cameras transmitted the image, warning systems, a metal
detector, a fire alarm and a panic button worked, and the director was able to
warn everyone at school about the emergency through a loudspeaker, which saved
dozens more lives of students and teachers, but the situation was not ordinary.
“We have never faced such attacks, and such a security system was
insufficient. But this is a problem of not only school No. 175 and Kazan – it
is a problem of the whole country,”- the Mayor said. He reminded about the
order of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the government of the country to
develop new standards-common standards in educational institutions of the
country.
Kazan must actively participate in the development of new safety standards,
the Mayor of the city stressed.
“By 1 September, we need to establish a new security system in educational
institutions. We have decided that by the end of the school year, security will
be strengthened at schools by means of the community police offices, district youth
liaison offices. These would be not just watchmen, but people with skills”, -
the head of the city said.
For information, the tragedy at gymnasium No. 175 occurred last Tuesday, 11
May. Nine people were killed in shooting, including 7 children and two adults,
23 people were hospitalized.
