The tourism industry of Kazan is gradually returning to the pre-pandemic
level. Experts forecast that the average occupancy of hotels for the May
holidays will be from 70 to 90%, taking into account peak periods. Ilsur
Metshin, the Mayor of the city, noted today at the Business Monday meeting that
the numbers are encouraging, but safety precautions must not be ignored.
According to the Association of Hoteliers and
Restaurateurs of Kazan and Tatarstan, Kazan enters the top ten Russian cities
for traveling on May holidays. Individual bookings prevail over group bookings.
The hoteliers will keep prices in May at the level of 2019, and at peak periods,
the maximum growth will be no more than 9%, said Daria Sannikova, Director of
the Committee for Tourism Development of Kazan. According to her, the city has
245 accommodation facilities for 8,182 rooms and 2013 public catering
establishments. The average load of the main facilities in March was 51.57%.
Last year, this number was 30.66%, in 2019 – 53%.
Transport links are also being restored. The
spring-summer schedule of the Kazan airport includes 33 domestic destinations.
Preparing for the new tourist season, the staff of the
Committee for Tourism Development of Kazan carry out inspections of hotels,
public catering establishments, the main sightseeing routes and organize
various events. “Due to current restrictions, most of our events have been
postponed. Such as gastronomic festival Delicious Kazan, Night Bike Fest, the
winter KyshDaKar-fest and the festival of national costume KazanEthnicfest”, -
said D.Sannikova.
“Even though we would like to return interesting and
big events, we are forced to postpone them until better times, until the
complete stabilization of situation. It is not the right time yet. We will
protect both the residents and the visitors of the city”, - the Mayor stressed.
