By the upcoming school year, a new teen club with sewing,
leather, carpentry and pottery workshops will open in Kazan on Khimikov street,
19. The building is currently undergoing renovation. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur
Metshin got acquainted with the progress of work, as well as the concept of the
club.
Ayrat Faizov, Chairman of the committee for children
and youth affairs, said that previously, a grocery store was located in the building.
After its closure, it was proposed to open a teen club here. In 2019, the building
was included into the overhaul program for teen clubs. It is expected that the
overhaul will be completed by the end of August this year, and the club is 75%
ready for today.
Children will be engaged in sewing, leather, carpentry
and pottery workshops in the new club.
“Previously, teen clubs in Kazan offered only
football, tennis, and macramé classes, but now they have grown to the point to
bring us back to our history. This is very important. And in each class, there
should be teachers who are in love with their profession, their craft. It should
be outstanding teachers, so that they inspire children to work with leather,
clay and wood”, - Ilsur Metshin said.
A lecture hall will be located in the lobby of the
club, where children will learn the theoretical background of the craft. After
the first stage, they will attend the appropriate classes: sewing and leather,
carpentry and pottery. For example, in a leather workshop, teenagers will study
the Kazan seam, make various garment, including bags and belts.
“The production of leather goods in our country is a
traditional craft. Working with children and young people is very important. We
want our children not to watch TV and play a computer, but to visit such
wonderful clubs nearby their homes. But it is doubly and trebly important that
Kazan heritage is being revived here. Leather production glorified the city and
the region far beyond its borders. And now we need to train talented future
craftsmen who will continue our great history”, - Ilsur Metshin noted.
