(KZN.RU, January 31, by Alisa Rozanova). The atmosphere of Staro-Tatarkaya Sloboda (The Old Tartar Settlement) should be retained during its reconstruction. This opinion was expressed by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin during his visit to that part of town.
During his tour of the settlement, the mayor pointed out the buildings to be restored and renovated in the first place.
Kayum Nasyri Street is the central part of the settlement that has largely preserved monuments of culture and history. Some of the sites belong to Marjani Mosque. The representatives of the clergy suggested building a center of pilgrimage and a hotel. Ilsur Metshin stressed that the main goal was to preserve the atmosphere and spirit of Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda. "It may not be possible to recreate a particular building in its original form, but we need to recreate the lost architecture,” he stressed.
Surviving photographs will be used while restoring the original look of the wooden houses on Nasyri, Tukai, Narimanov and Paris Commune streets, most of which have been lost, unfortunately.
The reconstruction of the wooden buildings is planned to start in early spring.
