Today, the mayor
of Kazan Ilsur Metshin met the winners and finalists of the all-Russian Olympiad
of School students in the City Hall in the framework of the city forum. The
meeting was held in the format of a discussion, which was also attended by
school principals, university rectors and teachers who prepared the winners.
The meeting was moderated by Bulat Kuramshin, a three-time winner of the
all-Russian Olympiad of School students, a fourth-year student of KFU.
The all-Russian Olympiad of School students has been
held for more than 50 years in 24 subjects, annually about six million
schoolchildren take part in it, Bulat Kuramshin said when opening the meeting.
“The victory at the final stage promises admission to
any University without exams for four years, - reminded the moderator. - Kazan
today is one of the leaders in the Academic Olympiad movement. This year there
are 85 people winners – this is a record for the city”. He urged the guys to
share the secrets of their success.
The winner of the International Chemistry Olympiad, a
student of Lyceum № 131 Oleg Panfutov answering the question, focused on one of
the actual problems for the Olympians. “I identify three components of success
in the Academic Olympiad: hard work with professional teachers, personal involvement
in the subject and the technical resources needed for a particular subject”, - he
said. – But if we have all the possibilities, then most schools in the city do
not provide the resources to conduct experiments in chemistry, biology,
physics, as there are no special equipped laboratories. The universities hold
training camps once a year to prepare for the Olympiad, though this is not
enough”.
The issue of using the Universities base for training school
students has already been discussed at a meeting with teachers in Kazan on the
eve of the Teacher's Day, the mayor recalled.
Heads of universities supported the proposal to
provide students with a training site.
The mayor instructed to make a list of all Universities
laboratories, the sites of which are suitable for improving professional skills
and training of students. “We need to invite children who consistently perform
high results in education, and provide them with specialized sites. However, it
is necessary to organize the process correctly and train all interested school
students. We have excellent universities and good bases. This is a serious task
that we will solve this academic year”,- I.Metshin said.
At the end of the meeting, the mayor thanked the
teachers and heads of educational institutions for participating in the
discussion. The head of the city addressed the students: “We are proud of you
and your achievements. Discovering something new, achievement heights, holding
a high bar of winners is a huge work. You are outstanding people who can change
the world with their discoveries. I have no doubt that together we will find a
solution to increase the availability of educational sites for you. We have
always paid special attention to the Academic Olympiad movement, and we will
always support you and your ideas”, - I.Metshin summed up.
