A model of Kazan identity was presented to Ilsur Metshin

The model of Kazan identity was presented to the mayor of the capital city of Tatarstan Ilsur Metshin. The study was carried out within the framework of the development of the concept "Center of Kazan- a sustainable development". Maria Leontieva - sociologist, coordinator of the center for applied urban studies, presented the results of the study in the Executive Committee.

The results of the study were: integral methodology of identity research, recommendations for the cultural and social design of the territory, historical and cultural analysis of the city's identity and a set of key values of the city.

The architects proposed to use different approaches to the development of particular territories, depending on the historical patterns. The development of the concept was initiated by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the working group is headed by the mayor of Kazan.

The historical and cultural analysis is based on more than 200 historical sources, focus groups and a project seminar with local historians and ideologists. The main issue in their work was the development of the city considering the interests of modern residents and preservation of the historical features, M. Leontieva noted. According to her, non-material values - history, culture, social and political experience of people living in certain territories-have acquired a special role in the work.

The study of the territories of Kazan from the founding of the city to the present day was developed in the form of a map with a district detail. "Different approaches are needed to the territories depending on whether the historically established way of life has been preserved there or not," M.Leontieva said - For areas where it has not been preserved, it is possible to recommend as a source of inspiration what was here before. It is necessary to repeat or re-think the historical ways in order to Kazan remained a special spirit that distinguishes the city from others".

According to the results of the survey of 600 people, the experts made a "mental" map, which marked different areas. The chief architect of Kazan Ilsiyar Tukhvatullina proposed to improve the map, reflecting the views of citizens about the city center. "It would be desirable that on the basis of the study, we also understand what inspires Kazan citizens in one or another part of the city, what colors are used there, how public areas are decorated. We could use this feedback in work on other areas of the city", - she said.

"The number of studies is impressive. I appreciate the work you have done", - Ilsur Metshin addressed the participants of the meeting. - We will continue to work in this field, we will attract young scientists. I am sure that the result of our joint efforts will be good".

Ilsur Metshin proposed to hold a General scientific conference devoted to the discussion of the Kazan identity model. The mayor also noted that due to such a comprehensive approach, developers will be able not only to create a new infrastructure of the city, but also to adapt it to the cultural code.
