(KZN.RU, December 28, Alina Berezhnaya). Since the beginning of the winter season, 400 thousand tons of snow have been removed from Kazan roads. On January 24 and 25, the entire fleet of snowplows was used on the roads because of the heavy snowfalls, said Igor Kulyazhev, the deputy head of the Executive Committee and the chairman of the Committee for External Improvement, today at the Business Monday.
Since the beginning of winter, 115 mm of precipitation fell in Kazan, which is 60% of the norm. January was particularly snowy; 48 mm of precipitation fell in a month or 142% of the monthly norm. The peak of precipitation activity was observed from January 24 to January 25. These days’ 720 units of equipment went for cleaning roads and sidewalks. “During this period, it was snowing heavily with the wind at a temperature of 27 degrees below zero. Unfortunately, at such low temperatures, the anti-icing material does not work well, and as a result, there was a snow-roll in some places on the roads”, explained I. Kulyazhev. “We have done everything necessary, conducted additional anti-icing treatment with an increase in the standard amount of material. As a result, the main problems were eliminated within 24 hours”.
In general, since the beginning of the winter season, 400 thousand tons of snow were removed from city roads, including 85 thousand tons last week. According to Igor Kulyazhev, the snow falls unevenly, a similar snowy winter was in Kazan in 2011. The average daily output of equipment was 615 units. Including the additionally attracted loading equipment of road-building organizations, this figure increased to 750 units per day.
Despite the snowfalls, all the main roads of the city are in a good condition. The cleaning of roads, bus stops, and sidewalks continues. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, instructed not to slow down the pace of cleaning and control the situation on snow removal.
According to the Committee of External Improvement, 5634 tons of snow was removed from the streets of Kazan over the past day. 126 road workers and 465 units of special equipment were involved in cleaning the city, including 145 combined road machines, 8 snow loaders, 91 brush tractors, 15 graders, 55 wheel loaders, 19 MKSM “Barsik”, 120 dump trucks, and other types of equipment.
During the day, 419 tons of anti-icing materials were used on Kazan’s roads, including 66 tons of reagent and 353 tons of salt-salt mixture.
This afternoon, 437 road workers and 298 units of special equipment are involved in cleaning the city.
