During the on-site meeting, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, ordered to pay special attention to the landscaping of the new territory of the Kazan Zoo under the name “Zambezi River”, the completion of the finishing works and the creation of conditions for visitors. He inspected the construction site, which is currently undergoing finishing and landscaping.
By the fourth quarter of 2018, there will be a modern zoo on the shores of Lake Sredny Kaban with African animals, which have to quarantine within 1-2 months and adapt to new conditions before being shown to the public. Afterward, the reconstruction of the old part of Kazan Zoo will begin, and in the future, the arrangement of the third site devoted to the flora and fauna of South America. For today, construction works, launched in 2016, are completed, finishing and landscaping work are being carried out. In addition, experts create livelihood systems for animals, because they require special conditions. Workers use polymer concrete and other modern materials to create African interiors in Kazan. According to Fanis Nurmukhametov, the director of the Zoo, the Zambezi River is completed by about 80%.
Ilsur Metshin inspected each enclosure of a new part of the zoo for giraffes, hippos, elephants, and gorillas. Chimpanzees, antelopes, zebras, hussar monkeys, hamadryads, rhinoceroses, gyps, pink flamingos will also live there. For today, monkeys have been purchased.
The issues of glazing of enclosures, the excavation of poor-quality soil from a construction site, contaminated with fittings and other construction debris, the navigation for visitors were also discussed at the meeting.
During the inspection of the territory that remains under the open sky, the Mayor of Kazan instructed the contractors to pay special attention to the planting of the complex and the adjacent territory. The botanical department of the zoo is involved in planting. The project on the open territory of the Zambezi River includes decorative plants, lindens, and willows. One part of the “green frame” will be planted in the summer, the other one in the fall.
Ilshat Gimaev, the deputy minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing of the RT, Azat Nigmatzyanov, the first deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee, Damir Fattakhov, the first deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee, Andrei Lobov, the head of the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts’ administration, and others took part in the meeting.
