(KZN.RU, May 7). 55.5 cubic meters of plastic were collected for its further processing at a city subbotnik on May 5. This is more than half the freight car. The same volume of plastic was collected within half a year in the grid, installed in the yard of the ordinary 9-storey building. It was told today at the Business Monday how residents of Kazan can organize separate collection of waste in their homes. According to Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, this practice can be implemented to start in several houses in each district. The head of the city urged Kazan citizens to support this initiative aimed at solving the problem of waste management.

Iskander Giniyatullin, the deputy head of the Executive Committee and the chairman of the Housing and Communal Service Committee, explained that the residents and the owners of housing have statutory rights and powers regarding the maintenance of common property, including the organization of separate waste collection. “Active residents can organize a separate collection in their yards before the coming of the new year, when a regional operator will appear”, said I. Giniyatullin. He said that it is necessary to hold meetings of homeowners, take an appropriate decision, indicate to the management company about the need to purchase separate containers for the collection of food waste, special waste, install them in existing container yards, oblige the management company to conclude agreements with carriers for export of separately collected waste.

At the same time, the Housing and Communal Service Committee is ready to provide all the necessary advice and support in preparing documents and meetings and to take an active part in them. “This will be a big step in solving a complex problem of ecological education of the population”, believes the chairman of the Housing and Communal Service Committee.

“The biggest road begins with the first step. Let's take this step with the citizens together”, urged the Mayor of Kazan. “We have more than 5 thousand apartment buildings, dozens of HOAs, management companies. We need to find active house heads. Of course, it is difficult to gather a common opinion, organize a meeting. But maybe such a topical issue will force people to unite and make such decisions”.

“Let's start with each district for several house. Since the legislator allows such initiatives to properly formalize and conclude contracts for separate collection of garbage, I would like this initiative to be supported”, said the Mayor.
