The opening
of the Kazan Metro was timed to celebrate the Millennium of the city in 2005.
For today, the first line has 10 stations with a total length of more than 20
kilometers. Today Kazan, along with Moscow and St. Petersburg, is one of the
few cities in Russia where the construction of the metro continues. The
republic allocated 5.2 billion rubles for the construction of the section of
the line from the station “Prospekt Pobedy” to the station “Dubravnaya”. In
2012, design and preparatory works began. In 2014, they started construction at
the crossroads of Zorge and Fucik streets and the design of the first stage of
the second metro line. The Dubravnaya station is a transfer line to the second
metro line, which will include 12 stations. Now the metro is used on average by
120 thousand people a day. It is assumed that passenger traffic will
increase by 20-25% with the introduction of another station.
