The standards for financing the road network maintenance in Kazan have not changed since 2011

(KZN.RU, December 13). In order to take the work on ensuring road safety and repairing the road network of Kazan to a new level, it is necessary to revise the funding standards for the road network maintenance, which have not changed since 2011, together with the Ministry of Transport and Road Economy of the RT and the Center for Economic and Social Research. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, announced this today at the XII session of the Kazan City Duma.

“Ensuring road safety is among the main issues of local government, from which the safety of citizens’ life and comfortable living conditions depend”, said the head of the city and thanked the Ministry of Transport and Road Economy of the RT for joint work.

According to the Mayor, much has been done in this sphere in Kazan in recent years. “Thanks to the support of the Government of the RT and our President, the road network of Kazan has undergone global changes, new high-quality roads have appeared, interchanges and pedestrian crossings have been built, changes in the traffic scheme have taken place”, noted Ilsur Metshin. “After the cancellation of left turns on the main city highways, the introduction of a modern automated traffic management system, and a difficult decision to organize a parking space in the center of the city, we managed to get rid of the traffic jams and significantly reduce the accidents”. According to Ildar Shakirov, the deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee, now the number of parking spaces in municipal parking lots along the road network is 1811 places in 58 plots, and their number will increase.

All these changes are the merit of all services of the city economy, the structure of the Executive Committee, Ministry of Transport and Road Economy of the RT, believes the Mayor. “The main burden lies on the districts’ administrations, the Committee for External Improvement, the Committee on Transport, which find ways to solve the emerging problems”, he said.

Ilsur Metshin marked that there is a lot of work to be done to change the standards for financing the maintenance of the road network, which have not changed since 2011, together with the Ministry of Transport and Road Economy of the RT and the Center for Economic and Social Research.

At the same time, roads in settlements and newly built residential complexes require special attention, believes the Mayor. “We will not leave this issue aside in the next year”, he said.

“Despite the lack of financial resources, it is necessary to solve the issue of infrastructure development in Salavat Cupere, Kulseitovo, and other residential complexes, as well as the installation of traffic lights, road signs and marking”, said I. Metshin.

“Much has been done, and even more tasks in ensuring safety on the roads are ahead of us”, said the Mayor. “I hope that through joint efforts we will be able to fully ensure all the conditions of safe traffic to our citizens and guests of the World Cup”.

Ildar Shakirov, the deputy head of the Executive Committee, noted that certain restrictions will be used during the FIFA World Cup-2018, the so-called “last mile”. For today, joint inspections of the zones, where restrictions will be introduced, have been conducted with the participation of representatives from Ministry of Transport and Road Economy of the RT, security agencies and the Executive Committee, relevant acts have been made, and correction work has been carried out (80% completed). The necessary measures will be implemented at the places of accidents’ concentration.
