(KZN.RU,
December 12, Alsu Safina). Today the meeting of the Board of Guardians of the
Law Faculty of the KFU was held in the City Hall by Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of
Kazan. Participants of the meeting discussed the implementation of the plan of
the Board of Guardians for the 20016/2017 school year, the development of
continuing education, and the project “Law Faculty Ecosystem” was presented.
Opening the
meeting, I. Metshin congratulated all those who gathered on the Day of the
Constitution of the Russian Federation. After that, Liliya Bakulina, the dean
of the Law Faculty, told about the directions, in which the work was carried
out in the last academic year. In May 2017, the Law Faculty made the roadmap.
The priority tasks were improving the quality of education, publication
activity, academic mobility, the formation of skills to attract investment and
create additional sources of funding. L. Bakulina also reported on the
implementation of the plan of the Board of Guardians concerning the development
of their own standards for legal education, the use of artificial intelligence
in jurisprudence, the project “robot lawyer” and others. In addition, she
listed a number of events, such as the Day of Law Faculty, the Day of Freshman,
and the legal dictation.
The Mayor
of Kazan drew attention to the need to intensify the holding of master classes
with the participation of people who have achieved success in other spheres
besides the legal one due to their personal qualities and skills. “We need to
revitalize life at the faculty”, believes the Mayor. “One such lecture can give
the movement that will help to choose the right way, specialty, and life path
in the future”.
I. Metshin
also asked about the students who are now studying in the first year. The dean
of the law faculty told that passing points to budget places are 272 points.
She noted that more than 60% of freshmen are nonresident, about 20% of them
coming from outside Tatarstan.
The Mayor
reminded that in 2006, a study conducted by the International Bank for
Reconstruction and Development and Higher School of Economics showed that there
were only 3% of nonresident students in Kazan universities. Then the need for
transformations in the system of higher education was noted so that Kazan would
become a city where young people from all over the country would seek a quality
education. And such positive changes occurred after the leading universities
received the statuses of the federal and national research universities.
During the
meeting, Ilsur Salikhov, the head of the program of the Law Faculty of the KFU
“Professional monitoring and career development”, the executive director of the
Association of graduates of the law faculty of the KFU, presented the
infrastructure project “Law Faculty Ecosystem” to the Mayor of Kazan. This is a
virtual space for professional development throughout life. Personalization of
education, active involvement of the employer and professional associations in
the educational process, and effective management of relations with graduates
were identified among the main approaches in the project.
The
chairman of the Board of Guardians of the Law Faculty of the KFU highly
appreciated the project and noted its importance both for the motivation and
professional development of students and for employers.
In
conclusion, the members of the Board of Guardians made a plan for the
development of continuing education at the faculty.
The Kazan
Federal University entered the top-15 rating among the classical universities
of Russia in 2017.
