November 27, Alsu Safina). Today Alexander Slavutsky, the artistic director and
director of the Kazan Academic Russian Great Drama Theater named after V.
Kachalov, turned 70 years old. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, congratulated
him on his anniversary.
“This is
for you, with respect and gratitude for serving the culture of Kazan”, with
these words, the Mayor gave him a letter of gratitude. “This is a small
fraction of what I have in my heart on behalf of all admirers of your talent”,
said Ilsur Metshin.
The Mayor
drew attention to the fact that in different years, Alexander Slavutsky lived and
worked in such cities as Chelyabinsk, Chita, Rostov-on-Don. Nevertheless, by
his own recognition, Kazan became his native city. “Everyone called me and
congratulated, the whole theatrical Russia. Both former students and artists
who I worked with. I’m very happy”, he shared his emotions.
Alexander
Slavutsky leads a successful creative activity for almost half a century. He
staged about 80 performances based on works of Russian and world classics, the
best examples of modern drama. For more than 35 years, he has successfully
headed theatrical collectives. A. Slavutsky has been working in Kazan for more
than 20 years. The Kachalov was got the honorary title “Academic” during the
time when he headed the theater.
On the
initiative of A. Slavutsky and with the support of the leadership of the
republic, a large-scale reconstruction of the historical building of the
Kachalovsky Theater was carried out. The theater staff continued to work
productively for 3 years, during which there was a reconstruction.
Much work
has been done by the artistic director of the theater to form a troupe, which
today is an example of a harmonious ensemble of bright individuals of different
generations.

Slavutsky pays special attention to the preparation of creative youth. On his
initiative, two acting courses of RATI (GITIS) were started at the theater, the
graduates of which are currently among the leading artists of the theater.
Ilsur
Metshin expressed confidence that there are still many high-profile projects
and achievements ahead for Alexander Slavutsky. The Mayor of Kazan also
expressed good wishes to the family of the director of the theater: his wife
(Svetlana Romanova, a People's Artist of the RF and the RT) and her son (Ilya
Slavutsky, a People's Artist of the RT). The meeting took place before the
staging of the comedy play “Mad Day, or The Marriage of Figaro”.

Slavutsky was born on November 27, 1947, in Chelyabinsk.
He
graduated from the professional studio at the Chelyabinsk Drama Theater named
after Zwilling, worked as an artist at the Theater of the Young Spectator.
He
graduated from the directing faculty of the Higher School of Theater named
after B. Shchukin, 1974.
Since 1974,
Alexander Slavutsky worked as a director in the Chelyabinsk Drama Theater named
after M. Gorky, the Novokuznetsk Drama Theater.
In 1979, he
was a student of the Higher Theater Courses at the GITIS named after
Lunacharsky.
From 1981
to 1987 – the chief director of the Chita Regional Drama Theater.
He trained
in Moscow in the theater named after V. Mayakovsky.
From 1987
to 1993 – an artistic director of the Rostov Academic Drama Theater named after
M. Gorky. The period of the leadership of Alexander Slavutsky was marked by a
great creative upsurge.
Since 1994
– the chief director, and since 2007 – the artistic director and director of
the Kazan Academic Russian Great Drama Theater named after V. Kachalov.
Hw is an
Honored Art Worker of the Russia (1986), a People's Artist of the RF (1997), a
People's Artist of the RT (2011), a Laureate of the State Prize of the RT named
after G. Tukaya (2000), the winner of the Volkov Award of the Government of the
RF for his contribution to the development of Russian theatrical art (2010).
He was
awarded the Order of Friendship (2007)
He is the
member of the State Council of the RT of the V convocation.
