November 2). Kazan was presented at the Fourteenth World Congress of the
Organization of World Heritage Cities, which runs from October 29 to November 3
in the Korean city of Gyeongju. Evgenia Lodvigova, the first deputy head of the
Kazan municipal formation, told the congress participants about the capital of
Tatarstan and the objects, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Lodvigova noted that “Kazan's presentation was bright and successful”. The
exhibition of cities is also organized in the framework of the congress, where
the capital of Tatarstan is represented among other world capitals. Guests of
the exhibition are told about the history and sights of the city, they are
introduced to national dresses and treated with chak-chak, kazylyk and other
dishes of national cuisine.
The
participants of the congress gathered in Asia for the first time to discuss the
topic “Heritage and Communities: Means of Involving Local Authorities in the
Preservation of Heritage” and listen to experts' opinions on the preservation
of the World Heritage. Representatives of 93 cities from all over the world
take part in the event.
Rasikh
Sagitov, the general secretary of the UCLG Eurasian Branch, takes part in
meetings. It is also planned to re-elect the Board of Directors of the OWHC at
the congress.
Tourism is
one of the priority directions of Kazan's development. Over the past 10 years,
the number of tourists in the city has grown almost 5 times. From January to
August, Kazan was visited by 2.2 million tourists, which is 10% more than in
the same period last year. The next level, which the city sets itself, is 2.7
million tourists a year.
