I. Metshin: “Pensioners are our most active helpers in solving urban problems”

(KZN.RU, September 25, Anton Nozdrin). The Decade of Elderly People, timed to the International Day of Elderly People, will be held from October 1 to 10 in Kazan. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of the city, urged residents to show maximum respect and attention to the representatives of the older generation today on the Business Monday. “Pensioners are our most important and active helpers. Their experience and tips are important for us in the work”, said the head of the city.

Damir Fattakhov, the first deputy head of the Executive Committee, spoke about the program of events, planned for pensioners. According to him, special attention will be paid to the health of the older generation. Doctors will visit lonely lying-sick elderly citizens at home. Doors Open Days will take place in treatment-and-prophylactic establishments. Charity events and actions to provide material, social, psychological, and other assistance to the elderly are planned in all districts of Kazan.

An important aspect of the decade will be activities for the socialization of representatives of the older generation. In particular, computer literacy courses will be organized, and a whole series of sports competitions in various sports will be held. Literary and musical evenings, competitions, quizzes, creative meetings will be organized for pensioners in art schools and libraries.

Many events will be held within the framework of the social project “Zhiznelub”, which has been implemented in Kazan since December 2016. “More than 2.5 thousand elderly people are engaged in creative activity in palaces and houses of culture free of charge”, said the first deputy head. Fattakhov said that more than 700 calls with proposals have been received on the project's hotline, among which is the expansion of the range of classes in such areas as exercise therapy, Scandinavian walking, and others.

Ilsur Metshin noted that the idea of the project “Zhiznelub” was born during one of the working meetings. According to the Mayor, members of clubs on interests are full of health and want to actively spend time. “We can and must make the life of the older generation worthy, active. So that retired people continue to reveal their talents, communicate, sing, and dance”, said the Mayor, commenting on the events of the decade. I. Their experience and tips are very important for us”, said the Mayor.

The head of the city instructed to hold all events with the utmost attention to every elderly citizen in Kazan. “There are many events. The Decade is another occasion to express our respectful attitude to our older generation”, marked the Mayor.
