(KZN.RU, September 12, by Renat Shirmanov) Renovation of Kazan’s historic center should proceed on a daily basis. Restoration of historic monuments of Tatarstan’s capital is one of the biggest challenges in the next two years. This was stated today by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin during the staff meeting of the Executive Committee.
Today, there are 552 objects under government protection in Kazan. 488 of them are under the authority of the republican and federal administration. The remaining 64 objects are among the monuments of local significance under protection of the Executive Committee. .
"There is a list of 61 objects in Kazan whose owners have been tasked by the President of the Republic to complete their renovation no later than 2012. Nineteen cultural heritage sites are on the list, including two of local importance, 15 of republican and two of federal significance," reported Ruslan Shakirov, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee on the preparation and holding of the 2013 Universiade.
According to him, municipal buildings need a special attention. "It should be noted that these projects are the most difficult to implement due to their low economic attractiveness, involved clearance procedures, and poor technical condition,” he remarked. Despite this, plans have been tabled for the renovation of each of these objects: six on Mardzhani Street, four on Chernyshevsky Street, 28 on Tatarstan Street, 58/5 Moskovskaya Street, 60 Karl Marx Street, and 62 Karl Marx Street will be implemented through public tender offers; five buildings - 38 Pushkin Street, 11 K. Marx Street,
45 K. Marx Street, 52 Bolshaya Krasnaya Street, and 8 Marjani Street - will be renovated.
"After discussing all the issues with investors, it is necessary to make specific proposals and make them available to the public at large in the near future. We’ll have to work hard until we get things moving," concluded Ilsur Metshin.
