The waterproofing of the bottom on the Bolshoe Lebyazhoe Lake is completed by 70%, on the Svetloe – by 20%

(KZN.RU, August 8, Alsu Safina). The covering the bottom of the Bolshoe Lebyazhie Lake with a waterproofing shield has been executed by 70% for today. Similar works on the Svetloe Lake have been completed by 20%. Filling the waterproofing shield with a 50-centimeter layer of sand is carrying out at the same time, on which the stored silt layer will then be laid. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, inspected the eco-rehabilitation of the Lebyazhie lakes system today.

Now, 18 units of equipment are working on lakes: excavators, bulldozers, rollers, and KamAZ trucks. “The work goes according to the plan. At this rate, we will see water surface here in November”, commented I. Metshin. He drew attention to the fact that this is only the first stage of work. There is still a lot to do to improve the adjacent territory: the arrangement of tracks, the organization of access roads and ski tracks. “Nevertheless, the heart of the object is the lake. We are already finishing and will begin to fill it with water in August-September”, said the head of the city.

The Mayor of Kazan along with Igor Kulyazhev, the chairman of the Committee for External Improvement, and Natalia Fishman, an assistant to the President of the RT, discussed the issues of lighting the adjacent territory and the organization of ski tracks during the working visit.

Igor Kulyazhev told the Mayor that the weather had made adjustments to the work of contractors. Water accumulated on the bottom of the Bolshoe Lake after heavy rains and it had to be pumped out. In addition, welding work cannot be carried out in rainy weather.

Preparation of the pumping station is carrying out on site at the moment. “It is important that once the bottom is prepared, we can turn on the pump and start filling the lakes with water”, said Igor Kulyazhev. “We need to approach these points simultaneously”.

The Mayor expressed the opinion that large-scale works on eco-rehabilitation of the Lebyazhie lakes system, which were started this year under the leadership of Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of Tatarstan, is a great gift for the city residents. All activities are coordinated with ecologists. They will allow restoring a unique natural site, increasing the water surface of lakes from 4.2 hectares to 36 hectares, and improving the overall ecological situation.

The bottom deepening of the Svetloe and the Bolshoe with a total area of 272 thousand square meters and its waterproofing, so that the lakes do not dry up, are carried out as part of a large-scale project on eco-rehabilitation of the lakes system. The installation of a 3-layer waterproofing shield began on the Bolshoe in June.

The water will be launched from the Izumrudnoe Lake (it connects with the Kuibyshev reservoir by groundwater) by the water pipeline to the Svetloe Lake. The Lakes Svetloe, the Bolshoe, and Maloe Lebyazhie are connected by ducts, so the water will fill the entire territory. Currently, only Maloe Lebyazhie is filled with water out of the 4 lakes (Maloe, Bolshoe, Svetloem, and Suhoe).
