The plenary session of the VI convention of the World Tatar Congress was held in Kazan

(KZN.RU, August 3). The VI convention of the World Tatar Congress is held in Kazan, within the framework of which a plenary session with the participation of Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, took place in Kazan today. Aleksey Pesoshin, the prime minister of Tatarstan, Farid Mukhametshin, the chairman of Tatarstan State Council, Mintimer Shaimiev, the state advisor of Tatarstan, Asgat Safarov, the head of the Presidential Administration, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Rinat Zakirov, the chairman of the Executive Committee of the WCT, and others also attended the meeting.

R. Minnikhanov greeted the participants of the forum. He noted that every convention of the Congress is a long-awaited historical event. “The convention, held in the year of the 25th anniversary of the congress, has a symbolic significance. During this time, the Congress proved its viability, showed itself as an institution preserving the language, culture, and traditions of the Tatar people, and it became an important factor uniting the people. The Congress united all the Tatars, working for the good of the nation and its future. For a quarter of a century, it implemented many successful projects”, said the President of the RT in Tatar language.

R. Minnikhanov noted that every year, large events are held with the support of the republic: the All-Russian Meeting of Entrepreneurs of Tatar villages, the World Forum of Tatar Women, the Forum “Business Partners of Tatarstan”, and the All-Russian Congress of Tatar Local History. Also, the head of Tatarstan mentioned the activities of organizations abroad: the Congress of the Tatars of Kazakhstan, the Tatar public cultural and educational center of Tashkent, the association “Tugan tel” of the Assembly of the Peoples of Kirghizia.

R. Minnikhanov noted that special attention is paid to working with young people. The World Forum of Tatar Youth is becoming more popular. According to the head of the republic, it is necessary to develop this direction in the future.

According to the President of the RT, a lot of work is being done to popularize Sabantuy, the Tatar national holiday. “It became a great tradition to hold Sabantuy in Europe, the All-Russian village Sabantuy. Recently, the holiday was held in Astrakhan and the Penza region. This year, Sabantuy took place in 59 regions of Russia and 32 countries abroad and became a beautiful event in the life of our compatriots. This is a great work of the congress, the result of the Russia governments activity and the authorities of foreign countries”, said R. Minnikhanov in Tatar language. The head of the republic believes that it is necessary to raise the issue of introducing Sabantuy into UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.

In his speech, R. Minnikhanov also mentioned the issues of strengthening bonds with compatriots, supporting the Tatar language, culture, and traditions, working with regions and countries where the Tatars live. The President of the RT thanked the participants of the congress for their work. Also, M. Shaimiev addressed the participants of the congress, reports the portal of the Tatarstan Government.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, greeted the participants of the congress. He sent a welcoming telegram to R. Minnikhanov, delegates, and guests of the forum. The congress will last until August 6.
