April 19). The meeting of the Executive Bureau of the United Cities and Local
Government (UCLG) is held in Madrid, where the heads of cities from all over
the world take part. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, the President of the
UCLG Eurasian Branch, represents Tatarstan at the international forum in the
Spanish capital.
Evgenia
Lodvigova, the deputy head of the Kazan Municipality, and Daria Sannikova, the
director of the Tourism Promotion Committee of the Executive Committee, joined
the Tatarstan delegation. Aisen Nikolaev, the Vice President of the UCLG
Eurasian branch and the Mayor of Yakutsk, Alexei Shaposhnikov, the chairman of
the Moscow City Duma, and others also take part in the meeting.
The
participants of the meeting will consider strategic priorities for 2016-2019
and joint actions for the implementation of UCLG projects. Discussions are
planned in main areas of the strategy of the world organization, on partnership
issues and the contribution of the UCLG to international processes. The
discussion will focus on the policy, in particular, the renewal of the
partnership between the UCLG and the European Union for 2018-2020, the
implementation of projects in the field of climate and sustainability,
organizational issues of the UCLG Peace Prize and the UCLG Cultural Summit.
The World
Organization “United Cities and Local Governments” is a voluntary international
merger of associations, unions, and individual municipalities, established in
2004. The UCLG is the most powerful and influential organization in the world
in the field of international cooperation for cities. The organization aims to
strengthen cooperation of local governments and represents their interests on
the world stage.
For today,
the UCLG brings together more than 1000 cities and associations of the world
and represents more than 70% of the world population. The UCLG consists of
seven regional branches: Africa, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Eurasia, Latin America,
Middle East, North America, as well as the department of “Metropolis”, which
brought together 137 capitals and major cities from all around the world.
